[1000mp] Microphone Connection

Bob,

Do you use a compressor/limiter/preamp or any sort of audio processing
between the microphone and the rig?

At the shack here in the hotel I use a Shure 562 dynamic, noise-cancelling
radio dispatch mike with a 150 ohm impedance and a 150:600 ohm matching
transformer in a shielded base. No external processing. My audio reports are
that the mike sounds clear, but there is no big bass response like a studio
mike
would give.

This is perfect for SSB communications for me, as all I want is simple
intelligibility
and no big audio spectrum as I'm not a broadcaster.

There is a section in the Mark V electronic menu 4-4 , selections OFF
through 4 that
tailors the transmitted audio to match your voice and mike.

Plug a set of cans in and turn on the monitor button and crank up the
monitor volume
knob and listen to your voice through your mike. You will be surprised at
what a difference
a half-inch more or less closer to the mike can be, or what a difference the
audio compressor
knob and mike gain knob can make.

I have heard or read somewhere that the Mark V will produce better output
audio if the phone patch on the rear of the radio is used as compare to the
front microphone plug.
