[1000mp] MP just went deaf

I own an FT-1000MP that has had very little use.   I finally got is set 
up on the operating desk and started playing  with it  and after about 
an hour of listening it went deaf.  I was listening to the  AM  
broadcast band  at  7 MHz  when all of  a sudden it started to  drift 
around in frequency then finally totally became deaf.  I have lots of 
noise and the front controls all work but not signals.   So did a loop 
just go out of oscillation and it becomes an alignment issue or did  
some part fail ?  

I am not a Yaesu fan  but do need to get this thing working. I cannot 
afford to have someone work on it so need to fit this myself with this 
groups help I hope. 

Where do I start ?

PS  Sure glad I wasn't going to use this radio this weekend in the 
Sweepstakes got my trustly Kenwood TS-850SAT for that but my long term 
plan was to make the FT-1000MP the contest radio...but you can't work 
them if you can't hear them.  .
