Nah  it is normal,
Mine does the same but it varies at times
You don't switch on a 1000, You BOOT  the damn thing.

Greetings:
When turning on my FT-1000 MarkV Field, the display takes a few seconds to 
come on (10) seconds aprox. Is there something going out or just normal. I 
have had this unit for about a week. Old unit is FT-767; just traded up. Any 
advice would help.
