[1000mp] Protecting Front Ends

Dear Bryan:

No, it is not safe to have another HF radio connected when operating your
FT1000MP Mark V.

Disconnect the antenna to the FT-857D to be safe.

RF, static, lightening strikes, etc., can all damage the front end of any
radio connected to any antenna.

I agree with W5JAY and another posting.

I have a friend who lost the front end of an FT1000D that was "grounded"
because RF got around the relay and had components damaged.
This is also typical for ICOM radios and some Kenwood's.

Again, I would not take the chance,

73 & Good luck, George K8GG

Subject: [1000mp] Protecting Front Ends

I recall the discussion a few weeks ago about whether the Mark V receiver
was protected when it was transmitting and an antenna was connected to the
RX antenna input. Rightly or wrongly, I now have a Front End Protector
between my receiving antenna and the Mk V RX input.

I do, however, have another rig - a FT-857D - which is normally off when I'm
running my Mark V and I could have the receive antenna connected to it. Is
it safe turned off but with an antenna connected when I run 400 watts to my
nearby dipole?
