The best solution is a protective equipment case made for the purpose. Have
a look at cases made by Underwater Kinetics www.uwkinetics.com and
Pelican www.pelican.com. Both are manufactured in the USA.

I am involved with a company that designs and manufactures specialist
electronic instrumentation that is used all over the world and this
equipment is not built into conventional enclosures, but rather into cases
by Underwater Kinetics. These instruments are used by electric utility
companies under very harsh conditions and protective cases offering adequate
mechanical strength is the only way to ensure the survival of the equipment.

I undertook a DXpedition to seven South Pacific islands and the transceivers
travelled 44000 km on international and regional airlines in Underwater
Kinetics cases and I had the peace of mind that the equipment was protected
against mechanical, dust and water damage.

The cases seal so well, that they sometimes would not open after an airline
flight, due to the internal and external pressure difference of the case. A
small valve allows one to equalise the pressure, before being able to open
the case.

The Underwater Kinetics cases are expensive to import from the USA to South
Africa, but you can purchase them in Canada at:

UK Products Canada, Inc.

Edmonton, Alberta T5M 3W2
Canada
Tel 780-484-2350
Fax 780-444-3989

They are well worth the money, particularly when you have to carry an
expensive radio around.

Subject: [1000mp] Carrying FT1000MP

Hi,
Looks like I will be traveling a lot with my (original)FT1000MP soon.
I will need to change at least 3 planes to reach final destination.
Anybody has experience or can give a good advise on how to carry FT1000MP
without having it broken upon arrival? I was thinking about putting it as a
check-in luggage in the original double box. I doubt that I will be allowed
to keep it with me in the plane as carry-on baggage - too heavy.
Any INFO would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
