[1000mp] Problem

During the BARTG RTTY contest I had this problem during the whole contest.
Make one or two S&P contacts and the Mark-5 would shut down the power to 10
watts. The power indicator (and my Diawa meter) was very unsteady and went
up and down in a radical manor, finally ending down at about 10 watts. It
seemed to me that the protector circuit was kicking in as it does and
lowering the power. But, how can one or two contacts make a rig too hot. The
fan would come on some times if I pushed it, but it did not help. I had made
several RTTY contacts, rag chews, the previous day and during the previous
week and no problems. Today I ran a fake contest and COULD NOT duplicate the
problem. The only thing I did was to tighten the coax , unplug and plug back
in the connecting cables. The SWR was 1.2:1 or less with my beam. The rig
tuner did not make any difference.

Station: Mark-5 Field (new Sept. 2005), Mosley 4 element beam, RigBlaster
Plus, Windows 98SE and MixW software. Just 50 watts out, no amp and only the
internal tuner. I have never had to use a tuner with this beam on 20 meters
since I got it several years ago as the SWR has always been about 1.2:1.
Anyone have a similar problem or any ideas about this? Mail me direct if
you wish.
