[1000mp] Mark V Display

Does anyone have an explanation for the peculiar nature of the display on the FT1000MP Mark V Field?

While it always comes up to a satisfactory brilliance, it will start off quite dim and - often now - the receiver will start with no display at all and only after several seconds will the display begin to illuminate.

I've casually read some comments on this before and am under the impression that this is normal but I don't own any other piece of electronics that behaves this way.
