If your using a add on type of encode or encode/decode board there should be a level control on it. Otherwise if it is internal generated in your rig you need a manual to know what to adjust to set the level. About 500Hz of mod is all you should need of the tone. If you discontinue the tone in mid transmission you will drop out of the repeater.
