[1000mp] FM Repeater Tone

Here's something that I have not dabbled with yet.  How do you lower the
sub-audible tone level for FM repeater use?  The pot is turned up too high
and I can plainly hear the tone.  Also, is there a way to turn off a
transmitted tone?  It seems that there is only continuous or burst.  Thanks.
