Hi Bob,
I am sure you know the RE-20 is a typical Broadcast balance line microphone.
I assume you are going straight into the mic jack in the front of the rig?
So on your Yaesu, Pin 8 is audio and pin 7 is the Mic ground. I am not sure
what cable or XLRs came with you mic or if you are going to make them up?
Anyway here is a good link to look at:
http://nu9n.com/tx.html#Audio_Cables
Basically you are going from the RE20's pin 2 ( also call the audio +) to
pin 8 on your Yaesu. Here is where it can get a little dicey on the audio
minus and ground. You could put the RE20's #1 on the rig's mic pin 5 and
then put RE20's pin 3 audio minus on the rig's pin 7. The above link shows
all this very well. You could also try just connecting both RE20's pin 1 &
3 together at the rig's mic connector end and hook them together at rig's
pin 7 (mic ground). You might have to try both out to see which one works
best for you.
On truly balance cable you would leave the ground open on one side, but
since this is a short run of Balance to Unbalance you should be OK doing
either one from above. However you mileage may vary.
The RE20 is a very good microphone, enjoy! You will have to boost the high
end (treble) a lot to get it to match the bass response of the RE20 or you
could cut the bass down a little. You might even have to do both since you
are not running external audio gear. The Yaesu has enough menus to keep you
busy for a while after you get it wired up, hihi.
Gud luck and 73 de w5jay/jay..
