[1000mp] a new symptom in my failing MP

The never-ending saga of my failing MP.
It has begun to fail more frequently, and for longer periods of time.
Today, I noticed something new.
During a failure (total loss of any signal to vfo A, vfo b can still 
receive, and inability to transmit) turning vfo A dial creates a noise. 
Sounds like crackling precip static while turning the dial.

I'm actually hoping it will fail for good, then I can send it off for 
repairs.
