Subject: [1000mp] RTTY help Mark-5/RTTY
I have been doing RTTY in the AFSK mode. Set up is Mark-5 Field with the
RigBlaster Plus interface. I have all the CW INRAD filters and the INRAD
Roofing filter, but no SSB filters. W1TO has been encouraging me to switch
to FSK. He has been a great help with my problems.
>>>>> I use SO2V FSK RTTY with my field with a simple interface that I built
from info on Don's AA5AU website so I'm not familiar with RigBlaster.
However I do have my rig set up to do both FSK and AFSK. I just have 3
instances of MMTTY setup, 2 for each VFO for FSK and one setup for AFSK.
Am I correct that I can use the CW filters with FSK? This would save me
buying SSB filters.
>>>>> Yes but you can also use your CW filters in AFSK. Set your field up
to use High Tones. Use a default Mark in your software setup as 2050 (Ham
default in MMTTY) for AFSK. Put your rig in PKT instead of LSB. For FSK
use the default of 2125, also High Tones and your rig in RTTY.
I am not sure how to connect the RigBlaster to the RTTY plug on the Mark-5.
I have the supplied plug, but not sure how to make a cable between M5 and RB
and how connected to the RB.
If I go FSK, will I be able to use my PSK31 programs without making
connection changes ? I use MixW and DigiPan for PSK.
>>>>> The rig can accommodate the connectors. I don't know about the rig
blaster. Use the RTTY 5 pin din connector for PKT and PKT 4 pin din for
PSK.
If I continue to use AFSK, what filters are recommended in the two SSB slots
I have left? The 1.8 is as narrow as INRAD shows in their catalog. Will a
CW 500 Hz work in the 3rd IF slot along with the 1.8 ?
>>>>> Don't buy the filters, see above comments.
These may be dumb questions to some of you. But, I am not a techie and I am
somewhat confused and want to be sure before I do anything. I went to AFSK
because it was easy to set up and I was not sure how to connect the Mark-5
and RigBlaster for FSK.
&3 and thanks... Dick KS0M
>>>>> Good luck, Dick. Nothing I suggested is complicated. Heck, even I
was able to do it and I'm an Accountant.
