[1000mp] Failed FP-29 Power Supply

I repaired a number of FP-29 supplies over the past few years. Some
failures will result in Yaesu recommending the purchase of a new
supply as a cheaper way out. One of the most expensive parts is the custom
HIC1 hybrid mosfet driver/controller. Its over $100.00 alone.
I believe the power mosfets are $40 each or more. Due to the labor charge,
it doesn't take long for the repair to exceed the $400 plus, cost of a
replacement FP-29. I haven't had to spend more than $300 in parts for the
worst case failure. The good news for you is that the symptoms you describe
proves that the expensive components are all good. Your problem lies in the
protection circuitry which is made up of very cheap zeners, transistors,
comparator, etc.
Good Luck
