Out of curiosity I checked my both two FT1000MP's and my FT1000D for these
artifacts.

I knew they were there since I have always noticed them but never really
paid too much attention to which radio had them since they seemed pretty
innocuous. The results are interesting. My FT-1000D (vintage 1994) shows
no audible "hole" or click when tuning past the artifact frequency except
for a momentary flashing of the "wait" light. With my first FT-1000MP (one
of the very first units brought into the US, but factory upgraded regularly)
there is very noticeable "hole" when tuning thru the artifact but no click
at all. On my later FT-1000MP (vintage 1999) there is not even the
noticeable "hole". Both have a momentary flash of the "wait" light, but
only the early MP is really noticeable.

I think each radio is different in some respects due to component aging and
sourcing in the production run.

By contrast, my TS-950SDX show a very low level, but distinct birdy every
8.83 kHz that is only heard with the gain wide open and no antenna
connected.
