Having made the swap of the original MP for the Mk V Field a few
years ago, the most noticeable change (my opinion) was the more convenient
knob placement on the right side of the front panel. The Field was also
quite capable of handling signals without the need for additional filters
under
"normal" conditions. I have to be truthful though, I ended up with a
746 PRO and the Field ended up in Hawaii and I never missed it. I no
longer really enjoy "digging" out those faint DX signals amongst the noise,
commotion, and intentional QRM as exhibited right now on the VU4
operation (g) Like most every opinion, it all depends on what you want
to do with the rig. They are both good ones (key clicks aside) and should
do everything that you would want them to do. The Field just was easier
for my big fingers in the "heat of the chase" (g)
