Doug:
I strongly disagree with Inrad's installation method, because I believe it takes too much heat and time to press those pins thru the audio board. I did mine a different way: I soldered a short length (2") of fine gauge twisted red and black wire pair (26 to 30 gauge is fine) to the surface of the +5V and ground connection pads. Then, I attached the end of those wires to the pins that I then inserted thru the top of the roofing filter power receptacle. This way, you avoid the heat and time profile required to get those pins into the board. I do not like soldering things I cannot see, especially with high heat and long time involved. The Ft1000MPs have the mating pin connector, so it is not an issue. But Yaesu did not populate that header pin on the FT1K MP MKV and Field, making the roofing filter installation more difficult. I again, I suggest the twisted pair surface soldered (do not press thru the holes) and avoid the possible damage or shorting that might occur.
73 and good luck with the mod, the roofing filter adds a lot to this radio.

Subject: [1000mp] Inrad Roofing Filter Install
I am installing the Inrad Roofing Filter in a new Field and have encountered
a problem. I soldered the pins onto the audio board as per the instructions
and installed the board. I noticed the sub-receiver was more sensitive and
checked the voltage on the pins on the Inrad board and discovered that it
was only about .300 volts. I removed the board and checked the voltage and
found that it was 2.8 volts (supposed to be 5 volts according to the
instructions). I unsoldered the pin and resoldered it to make sure I didn't
have a bad solder joint- same results.
Any ideas???
