[1000mp] **** Can't Change Menu Settings on FT1000MP ****

I have a 3-4 year old FT1000MP. It had to sit idle for about 18  months while 
my tower was being repaired. I tried to check menu settings last  night. 
Powered on the MP, pressed FAST and ENT. The display showed the first  setting in 
the main VFO and the description in the sub-VFO just like it should.  Turning 
the main VFO knob did indeed change the setting for option 1.1. HOWEVER,  
turning the sub-VFO knob did NOTHING. It stayed on 1.1. Could it be my battery  is 
depleted and needs to be replaced? Or did I forget something? It has been 18  
months after all!!!
