I have similar results to Bill. The only time I experienced the kind of
temperatures you are referring to, are when I operate Class A. The radio
becomes so hot, it is scary.
Is your Class A button not switched on?

One data point. I have had my Mark V for about 4 or 5 years so far.
On mine, the heat sinks get warm to the touch (I guess toasty is a good
term) but never too hot to touch. This has been constant since I got it and
is based on CW operation at 200W and RTTY operation at 100 watts.
