Yup, this sounds exactly like what happened to my Mrk V.  If you have an 
amp attached that uses the T/R relay without a buffer circuit, I would be 
willing to bet this is exactly your problem.  Mine started very 
intermittent just like yours at about 6 months.  After a year, it was 
happening about 50% of the time I'd unkey.  The interesting thing is that 
it seemed to depend on the circuit load.  With no amp attached, I could not 
get it to happen.  With my DMM, it would only happen once in every 20 
keys.  With a friends DMM, it would happen about 10% of the time, and with 
the amp inline, 50%.
