John:
Not sure if this is the same problem I had or not.
I picked up a used Mark V recently. When I had the head phone plugged
in it would thump very badly. In addition to that when the cooling fan
came on a whine began in the headphones. If I turned the RF all the way
down it would minimize the problem but it would not totally go away.
I sent it back to Yaesu. For $140 (which included return shipping) they
were able to fix it. Specifically they replaced the following:
G206004 Diode 1SS270TJ FTL-1011H
J24205473 Chip Res. RMC1/10T 473J
K22140811 Chip CAP. GRM40B104M25PT VX-520 0.1UF 25
G3334448E TRANSISTOR 2SC3444-T11-1E FT-1000MP
L1190393 COIL RCR-875D-331K
The parts added up to $3.61 the remaining was for labor 1.5hours and $32
for shipping.
The surprising thing about the experience was the turn around time.
They received it on a Friday and billed my credit card the following
Wed. and received the rig the following Monday. So I was only without
the rig for about a week and a half. This took place last month.
