Norm,

I also have a new Mark-V. I had a similar tuner problem. The only difference
being mine had the problem out of the box. The dealer sure didn't seem like
they wanted to take it back. I was forced to send it to Yaesu for repair. I
just received it back last Thursday and it's been perfect since. My problem
was similar in that the tuner wouldn't work all the time. I had to cycle
power to the rig to get it to work. When I held in TUNE the wait light
would come on the usual amount of time but the rig wouldn't transmit. Any
how Yaesu fixed it and I got it back in just under 2 weeks. They didn't say
what was wrong but the repair slip said they replaced two diodes, a cap, a
resistor and a relay. It sounds to me that you have a relay problem. When
I got it back I used the tuner on 39 different frequencies to set up all
bands and this weekend during the contest I tuned many many times anywhere
anytime all without a problem.

The rig is fine now and was great in the contest this weekend.

Subject: [1000mp] Antenna Tuner / RX Problem

Concerning the Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark-V. My radio was bought new and has just
completed two months in service. A problem has cropped up concerning the
antenna tuner and the receiver. After keying the transmitter I am losing
almost all of my RF signal in receive mode. White noise is still there, but
it is as if I had unplugged the antenna from the transceiver. My s-meter
drops and doesn't show any signal. The attenuator switch doesn't change any
noise levels. NB makes no audible difference. If I hit the Tuner switch a
few times, it may bring my signal back. Then, all it takes is a quick keying
of the transmitter, and I'm without my receiver again. There has been no
changes to antenna or anything in the system. It has been working well for
two months, and suddenly this happens.

I read about the 39 memories of the antenna tuner, and I tried the 'sub ce'
and 'ent' thing while bringing it back up...several times...but that didn't
help any. In fact, I'm not even sure that the antenna tuner is working. I
used to hear a motor noise in the unit from time to time, but that is no
longer there at all. I looked at the menu (# 8-8) and checked to be sure
that the antenna tuner was in fact turned on, and had not somehow been
turned off accidently. It is fine, according to the menu.

Frankly, this is my first Yaesu product, and a big one. I hope this company
will stand behind their product if something has gone out. I sent an e-mail
to the Tech Department at Yaesu last week, but no response as of yet.

Just curious, but does anyone know if this specific problem has this problem
been encountered before?

Norm-W4CCV
