Bob's suggestion is fine, the low wattage pencils are good, but sometimes
their tips are too large. I prefer to work with the temp settable Pace
irons. I use the model shown here (link from Ebay). These are plentiful
and cheap on Ebay, and are great to work with. A "must have' if you're
working on your own gear. Pace supports all of their equipment with
parts and service.

Also, I use two of these irons for desoldering SMT parts: I find it is
easiest to place an iron tip on each end of a SMT part, and lift it off
the pads. The part usually sticks to one of the iron tips, and I just
tap the iron on the bench to fling the part off. I do not recommend
wicking solder, because it is time consuming and places a lot of heat on
the work area. FR4 boards are especially prone to heated foil
delamination. Also, lifting the part with two irons usually leaves
enough solder such that adding solder is unnecessary. Just add a little
bit of water soluble flux, which has become my mantra on this reflector.
I use Kester 2222-VF. I have supplied a link.

This flux is very aggressive, but greatly limits heat and the need to
de-grease components, boards, or solder. Just apply a little flux and
the joint should be perfect with little heat. Then, blot the area with a
water moistened Q tip or tissue and you're set.

I used the 20W setting on my Radio Shack dual setting. The solder was
.032
dia, 60/40. All worked just fine.
