[1000mp] Loss of Rx upon release of PTT

My 1000MP has been in storage for five years.  Occasionally, when the PTT is 
released no signals are heard but there is background hiss.  A VERY slight
movement of either the WIDTH or SHIFT controls will restore operation as well
as a tap of the PTT.  Moving the WIDTH/SHIFT controls off the center detent
does NOT solve the problem suggesting the pots are not dirty.  Is there a relay
in the system bypassing these controls allowing full bandwidth on transmit? If
so, where is this relay and is this idea a valid one?  A possibility might be
the main T/R relay but why then is operation restored by slight movement of the
WIDTH/SHIFT ???      Cliff Buttschardt    K7RR at arrl.net
