[1000mp] Odd tuner behavior

I've been meaning to record all the menu and memory settings, so I'm going
to do that and then power up to reset the memories. We'll see if that clears
it.

At first I thought I was having a recurrance of the SWR problem I had
earlier that ended up being a loose connection. I rarely had to run the
tuner at all on my 990, so we'll see how this goes.

I know I've been pretty indescriminate about when I tuned, so I wouldn't be
surprised at all if that were the problem. It is odd though, because it
makes me wonder how the 990's memory system worked.

Thanks for the response, and 73!

I have something similiar. On my Zepp antenna when I put it up I checked
the SWR across the 160 mtr band. Without the tuner it was 1.1:1 from
1800-1875. At 1875 it goes to 1.3:1 and slowly goes no higher than 1.5 at
2000. Now I have the tuner on it starts at 1.3:1 at 1800 and climbs to 2:1
at 1850 and on up to 2.8 at 2000. Obiviously a tuner is not needed on this
band, but it strikes me as odd that it would make the SWR worst when I
thought it should be better.

73s and good luck,
Bob

Well if it's not one thing I guess it's another.

Today my MkV started acting up with its tuner. It works great on 80, 40, 30,
15, 17, and 12, it does the right thing. Tune within the band it the WAIT
light flashes as it finds its new spot.

On 20, the WAIT light stays on all the time - it doesn't matter mode or
frequnecy. Pressing and holding Tuner to make it tune results in a transmit
but no tuner action. I have to press Tuner again to stop the transmission.
The SWR seems to hover between 2 and 3, but it's only with the tuner engaged
that I see those readings - without the tuner, it's below 2:1.

On 10, the WAIT light stays on But pressing and holding the Tuner button
shuts the tuner off with the HISWR light. It doesn't try to tune. I can turn
the tuner back on, but WAIT stays lit again. Even WITHOUT the tuner, the SWR
meter pegs when I transmit. I have two antennas for 10 and it happens on
both. My RF-1 shows nice low SWR on each.

Is this a variation of the 'out of tuner memories' problem I've seen posts
about? If so, is the only way to clear the tuner memories to clear ALL
memories too?
