A lot hams don't like the Icom Fish finder look with everything in the TFT
display. Analog meters give a high quality feel to the radio and the just
plan look better than the cheesy Toys R us  TFT display metering. And as you
know in consumer electronics cosmetics mean more than performance in lot of
case's. 
In the FT-9000 you have both. To me the two analog meters just make the
radio .........a Radio!! 
Reminds me of the gorgeous FT-102 & FT-1 & FT-980
