[1000mp] Spottinf Feature

Can someone help me better understand how to use the spotting feature on the FT1000 MkV Field?

Suppose I tune in the CW station I want to work, i.e., peak the signal, center it in the passband, pleasant tone, etc. Now I press the "Spot" button. What next? I can adjust the tuning control but any change I make now effectively de-tunes the signal I've already tuned in. The spotting tone tells me what difference in pitch - if any - there will be relative to the other station's signal but is there anything else I can do with this feature?

What am I missing?
