If your ALC response is obviously too aggressive for example you can't
get full output or full peak output results in it going way beyond the
red line, you may have a problem with RF getting back into the rig to
give the ALC circuit a false trigger. experiment with removing
cables, putting ferrite chokes on the ones that have to remain hooked
to the rig, maybe a coax choke on the feedline, try removing the
ground strap to see if that makes a difference. first, tx into a
dummy load and see if ALC changes (without doing anything else). Try
this antenna then dummy load on several different bands. if your
results vary from greatly from band to band, and/or you get some
distortion on peaks, you probably have a common mode RF problem. i
think the yaesus are a little less sensitive to the RF problem than
kenwoods. to get my kenwoods to work right i had to do all of the
above.
