[1000mp] Auto Tuner Problem

Mark, thanks for the tip, and I'm not even the one with the question. Our
club bought a 920 this past November, and I went out to try it out Saturday,
and ran into the same thing. Our radios don't see much use until FD, and we
had always had an 850 on those antennas in the past, and the autotuner
worked with no problem. Not so with the 920. The antennas, a 40/80/160
dipole, all cut for the cw portion of the band would easily tune the phone
bands also with the 850. Not the 920. I was going to just move radios and
put the 920 on the Mosley pro 67, but I'll try turning the power down first
on the wire antennas and see if it's going to work.

Thanks... 73, Mike K9MI

Hi Jim

One thing I've noticed with the MP ATU with a high'ish SWR is that it can
sometimes give up tuning almost immediately. To get it to try harder try
this.

Turn down the RF power, go to FM & hold the Tx on with MOX, then press the
Tune button. The ATU process then starts trying to tune. As it works away,
slowly wind up the power.

The ATU often finds matches with lower power this way that it can't on
higher power.

I am using a 1000MP (Not MkV) and due to a lack of real estate, use a half
size G5RV antenna. The antenna will tune up on all bands from 7MHz up using
the 1000MP Auto-Tuner.

Yesterday I made some alterations to my antenna and went to check that the
FT-1000MP would still tune up OK.
First of all, I cleared the Auto-Tuner memories and went through each band
attempting to tune 2 spot freqs in each band using the TUNE button.

The auto tuner had no problems on 7MHz band but on all other bands the tuner
showed HIGH SWR and shut down. The strange thing is, if I just select TUNER
but do not press the TUNE button, then hold the key down, the tuner does its
stuff and I get a very low SWR indication after about 3 seconds on all
bands. If I now press the TUNE button to memorize the setting, it gives me
the HIGH SWR again and shuts down.

I do not remember having this problem before and wonder if anyone could
assist me with this problem.
