Dear Rob,
I had the 756ProII and the FT-1000MP Mark-V side-by-side a couple of years.
IMHO the 756ProII is very innovative with a very nice display and a lot of
features (e.g. DSP-filtering). However I preferred the Mark-V with Inrad
filters for day-to-day usage, especially during contests. For 50 MHz and
digital operations I used the 756ProII.
About half a year ago I sold the 756ProII and bought one of the last
IC-775DSP models. It's all very personal, but I highly prefer rigs like the
775DSP, Mark-V, FT-1000(D) and TS-950SDX. They have outstanding analoge
receivers and are very solid (heavy, less plastic). What wins in my
considerations is the sound of the receiver; after many operating hours one
should not get fatigue. I can listen for hours on my 775DSP and 1000D,
without getting tired (ears or eyes).
Good luck!
