Hi David,
The Quadra requires a tuning carrier for automatic band-setting and ATU
tuning. When the F SET or TUNE key on the Quadra is pressed, the Quadra
applies a 25.5 k-ohm closure across the tip and ring of the Remote socket.
This emulates the FH-1 TUNE key, and causes the exciter to transmit a
continuous carrier to the Quadra at the power level selected in Menu 4-3
(typ. 75W). The Quadra's controller counts the excitation frequency, and
sets the bandswitching relays and ATU accordingly.
When the band-setting or tuning cycle is complete, the Quadra will remove
the 25.5K loop, and the exciter will unkey.

Why is it necessary to have the lead in the remote socket with the Quadra?
