I cannot remember if this has been mentioned yet or not: try a line isolation transformer in your audio cable, particularly if you are running the yaesu with some sort of external gadget such as a PC for data, a contest voice keyer, or audio processing equipment. An isolation box in the mic line at the yaesu mic input, such as the W2IHY Ibox can help protect the yaesu from RF on the audio line.

I hate to add a cautionary note here but I have heard too many qsos where the station with audio problems asked how his audio was, and received all is well answers from the well meaning ham who's excessive politeness did more harm than good. You really should listen to yourself, or have a friend who can be merclessly critical listen and comment.

Subject: [1000mp] audio distortion with amplifier
Hi all,
this night i did some tests and asked audio reports in the contest.
Every audio report i asked on 80m and 160m where commented
as good audio quality....
When i used the monitor function it seems the distortion varietes
sometimes from pretty good to distorted.
I'm sure it's RF feedback coming only in the monitoring system.
So far so good.
73's Peter ON7BJ.
