[1000mp] Blown fuse

The majority of consumer electronics today are moving the fuses to inside
the cabinet in the name of consumer product safety. This assures (for the
most part) that the equipment will be referred to a certified service center
for repair.

It really all deals down to product liability in today's sue everyone world.

For example, Say the FT1000 fuse was on the outside and it blew. The owner
could cut a nail and put it in the fuse holder and get it to work.  Say then
something bad happened inside the radio, there was no fuse to blow and a
fire and a loss of property or life could result.

The insurance company could then sue the Mfg. for making easy un controlled
access to safety related parts.

No ham would do that right?? WRONG... Over the years when I was servicing
Collins gear, I cannot count the times I have found bolts, 10 gad wire, alum
foil etc. in place of the PS fuse...

Bill, the pain is that you have to open up the cabinet.  Why that fuse
couldn't be located on the back panel eludes me.
