[1000mp] need some advice

Hi Bill,

If you wish, I can look over my service manual, figure out which relays may
be involved and e-mail you scans of the appropriate pages. This will take me
a few days. (The relays are soldered-in).

Before you start, I would recommend that you borrow or otherwise acquire a
reflectometer (RF power/SWR meter), connect it between the MP and the
Quadra, and check forward and reflected power during a TUNE and an F SET
cycle. This will provide further clues to the location of the problem.

You can order the service manual (technical supplement) from Yaesu USA. I
believe the price is around $30. Unfortunately, there is no downloadable
on-line version. I strongly encourage you to pick up the service manual
before you start troubleshooting the amplifier.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Subject: [1000mp] need some advice

With the help of Adam, who determined that a relay in my VL1000 amp may be
bad causing the automatic tuner to not work.
Although I have fairly good swr on my antennas, I do need the tuner on 80
and 30 meters.

When attempting to use the tuner it beeps, the screen shows no capacitor
turning and the Error message is displayed.
Adam diagnosed it as a possible faulty relay in the input signal path.

I do not have a service manual nor any rf test equipment.

Before I open it up and start looking, does anyone have a suggestion as to
which relay it may be and if they are soldered in or mounted in sockets?

Please and thank you.
