[1000mp] IP3 on Rob Sherwood's site

Bill, I was responding to the PIN diode mod. What mod are YOU talking about? My topic has nothing to do with any filters. When I began responding the subject line had PIN in it--now it has mysteriously morphed into IP3 on Rob Sherwood. Here's what I'm talking about:
http://www.mods.dk/view.php?ArticleId=2992

It supposedly reduces internal rx noise. My point was that on the low bands where there is so much ambient QRN most of the time anyway, the internal noise reduction probably wouldn't be noticed as it would be drowned out by the external junk.

In a few years having the most wonderful rx in the world probably won't matter with continual S9 powerline data and all these mods will be moot points.

Which mod is that? There are two front end mods for the FT-1000MP
family that are mutually exclusive since they both fit into the same slot.

1. YAESU FT-1000MP & MARK V FRONT END MOD!

We now have a mod for the FT-1000MP: a small 70MHz I.F. amplifier. It
boosts the front-end gain a few dB. The IF gain setting in menu item 9-1 is
then reduced to compensate, and the radio's background hiss is greatly
reduced. The byproduct is increased sensitivity of 2-4 DB in noise floor
reduction. This is a plug-in, no-solder mod which can be easily removed.
The Front End mod will also work in the MARK V, except it requires
soldering two connections. This mod applies to the new Field model also.
Price: $55. See our <https://www3.qth.com/~qthcom/inrad/secure/>Secure
Order Form to order.

2. YAESU FT-1000MP & MARK V ROOFING FILTER

International Radio Corp is building more FT-1000MP (and MV and Field)
roofing filter mods. These roofing filters can substantially reduce the
third order Intermodulation from multiple strong signals in the 2 to 20 kHz
region either side of the tuned frequency. Please see our PDF document
titled "A few words about Roofing Filters" for more details. This is a
plug-in, no-solder mod that can be easily removed. The roofing filter will
also work in the MARK V, except it requires soldering two connections. This
mod applies to the new Field model also. NOTE: This unit cannot be
installed along with our 70 MHz IF Mod. Only one or the other can be used.
For background information about roofing filters, plus performance data and
customer comments about the new INRAD Roofing Filter for the Yaesu
FT-1000MP series, as well as our plans for Roofing Filters for Ten-Tec and
ICOM radios, click below: below:

Price: $165 plus shipping & handling. We are now taking advance orders for
delivery starting the last week of September. Units will be shipped in the
order in which orders are received. See our Secure Order Form to order.
As you can see, neither of these has anything to do with what you are
talking about. BTW, thanks for the advice on 10 meter contests...sounds
like that might be a fun thing to do since I've never tried it before. ;-)
