I have two PK232's and love em. For packet Vhf and above, it is great to put
the rig and the tnc online with out any computer, and the packet mail box is
available to receive mail, and for others to use.
For HF, after the tnc is modified and upgraded, it is superb for the digital
modes it supports on hf. Takes cpu cycle time load off the computer, and
allows for putting those older slower computer machines to work, freeing the
big one up for, well the bigger faster tasks. Hi hi
The mod's are in two categories. One the capacitor mod's that reduce the
noise on many of the chips, the change in chips to reduce current drain, and
the upgrade of the firm ware. There are tons of sites on the internet about
the mods, upgrades, and I am sure others can steer you in the right
direction to get maximum enjoyment out of a still very excellent addition to
the ham shack equipment.

p.s.
I also used the pk232 for hams to access on a landline bbs, and get on the
air for packet operations. Great for Eoc's that have rfi problems!
