The Mark V is one db better dynamic range wise than the V Field at 2 kc spacing.

The Mark V puts out 200 watts with the included outboard power supply versus 100 watts with the V Field. However the V Field can be tweaked to put out 150 watts.

The Mark V is easier to convert to 60 meter and MARS operation than the V Field.

The Roofing filter mod procedure is the same for both rigs.

The Mark V costs on average $300 more than the V Field.

I own the Mark V Field and am very happy with it. I bought the Field because I didn't need 200 watts output and was trying to save some money as I had just shelled out a ton of $$$ on the hobby in general.

I'm trying to decide between the mark V and the Field.

  Derwin,

Since numbers and filters don't mean anything to you, I suggest the MK V
Field for the dual real-time VFO...Put one frequency on your left ear
headset, and another on the right. I moved up from a 746PRO and will
never purchase another Icom. This is one of the most tangible features,
but of course, there are a host (believe me) of others. But I would have
to get into numbers and filters.

currently own 746pro. Trying to decide if I should trade or sell &
buy a Mark V Field. I am not of a technical mind set so all these
number & filters mean nothing to me. Stock vs Stock why is FT-1000
Mark V Field the better choice?
