I echo what Blake has said. CW with full break-in is smooth as polished
glass.
Once one has found the sweet spot for each end of (most) bands and
written the settings down, band change is fast and uneventful. Protection
circuits have prevented damage from mistakes.
The two limitations that I have found with the Alpha 99 are:
it does not play nicely with higher SWR and there is no provision for
running the fan for a minute after turning off the filaments.
I have heard that the AL-1200 is as reliable as a stone.
