[1000mp] Drive from Packet Plug

I understand the CWGet is suppose to be good. I like the fact that with HamScope the display is about a second behind because I can copy in my head, or try to, and the display is my feedback to tell me if I got it right.

Also got my drive problem fixed. Had a stupid short in the Line In. I didn't think it would be that because I was getting something in. Figured I was doing something else wrong with either the rig or the software. Seems the short was in between the headphones. Hi Hi

Thanks for the help,
Bob

  Bob,

Its not a big deal, the filters that the Packet mode uses with a center frequency of 2225 Hz is ideal for PSK, MFSK, RTTY, Pactor, Amtor, Hell'scrib. Wish more users would use the higher tones thus reducing spurious side tones. For CW and MT63 which require lower tones then yes you need to use a different input. Some prefer the Mic input on the front, others the DVS jack on the back which also mutes the mic input when it is in use. PS - With the mic muted you can yell all you want when in the digital modes. I still haven't found a good CW soundcard program or should I say as good as the human ear for decoding. There's allot of ideas on soundcard interfaces on the http://www.va3cr.net/ designed just for the MP's.

Hope to see you soon on the digital modes.

I am using HamScope. Hmmmm if the packet plug only works when I am have PKT pushed, which BTW makes sense, then I need to find another way to get the data from the radio to the computer, without messing with the microphone and earphone jacks on the front of the unit. I am hoping to use HamScope with PSK, CW and RTTY from the rig.

    Thanks and 73s,
    Bob

      Bob
1st, the packet jack only functions in the packet mode, not RTTY or CW selected mode on the front of the MP. Is your line out on the soundcard a low level output? I think that the output should be somewhere around 100Mv. Also have you tried adjusting the soundcard setup?
What software are you using? I have used the data-in/out line out for years with different soundcards and never had a problem with the input to the sound card or to the FT1000MP. I have successfully run direct from the computer to the FT without and voltage divider networks or isolation transformers, however, to be on the safe side I built the interface several months ago and it still works fb.

I have wired the computer directly to the Packet 5-pin connector. I am using Line In from Data Out and I don't seem to be getting enough signal getting to the radio. I am unable to copy CW or RTTY with the computer or even see the signals on the spectrum of the software that I am using. I have found that it I take a microphone and put it close to the speaker of the rig and have the mic plugged into the computer that I get CW well enough to translate it, sometimes.

        Anybody have any ideas?

        Thanks,
        Bob
