Could be you need to adjust the IF gain, as explained in the instructions 
for the mod.  However, that should work the other way, reducing the 
sensitivity, unless maybe you turned it down too far.  I certainly don't 
notice any loss of S-meter deflection -- in fact, my Mark 5 with the mod is 
only about 2 dB per graduation up to about S9, where it suddenly gets more 
normal.
