That is how I have always used my FT-1000MP.  I use it for many digital
modes without any problems. If I leave the computer hooked up to the rig
while using the monitor function I do get a hum through the monitor, and I
have been told that when I forget to disconnect the computer from the rig I
do get some hum on my SSB signal. So always disconnect the rig if you are
not using the computer for digital modes.
