Sounds like a faulty connector at the shack end. It may read OK on your MFJ but as soon as power is supplied it arcs or shorts. I'd replace the connector at the transmitter end.

Subject: [1000mp] Re: FTV-1000 - high SWR.

I am new to 6 meters, and have not been on much because in part, I cannot
seem to get the transverter working well. The high SWR light goes on, even
with very low power (1 or 2 power indicator lights). I'm using a SteppIR 3
ele Yagi, which after talking with the guys at SteppIR, I ordered and
installed the passive six meter element, hoping that would cure the problem.
Since then, I have also bought an MFJ 269 analyzer. I have the SteppIR on a
54 foot tower, fed with 100 feet of Cable Experts 1318FX coax. I've
adjusted the antenna as low as I can go, in terms of SWR using the
dimensions for reflector and director from STeppIR, it is now, according to
the MFJ analyzer, 1.2:1. Still, the SWR light goes on. [Given the low SWR,
I don't think this is an antenna problem.] I played around with this some
months ago, but got tired of it and just set it aside - but I understand
June is a good month for six meters, so I thought I would try to figure it
out. Has anyone on the list had a similar experience? Tom W6EIJ
