According to W2VJN noise blanker operation is improved by
the roofing filter. I suspect there are a couple of
reasons ... (1) the noise blanker no longer has to deal
with strong off frequency signals and transient IMD
effects that can mimic noise (2) the filter is a six pole
unit which has relatively wider skirts and a flatter
phase response which reduces pulse stretching.
George also commented that the MP/MKV noise blanker
stretched the pulse (blanking interval) itself so the
blanking interval and noise pulse were more closely
matched with the roofing filter.
