Hi Dean et all,
Thank you and everyone else who have responded to my queries. Yes I'm using a homebrewed interface for audio out to soundcard, audio into rig from sound card and a T/R switch. The audio in has a 1:1 isolation transformer and a resistive pot. I have already tweaked this circuit for best matching.

The problem was that I was selecting USB mode on the front of the rig instead of PKT mode, duh! However when I operate PSK31 in the PKT mode it's in LSB. You can't get the rig to go into USB on PKT mode.

I have still not gotten a straight answer from anyone on the below question:

What I'm wondering is if the PS31-u setting under "Easy Set" inverts the transmitted signal to USB?! Anyone know the answer to that? I know that PSK is sideband independent and it really doesn't matter whether you transmit in USB or LSB BUT if I am transmitting in LSB using PKT then I need to for sure, for frequency readout correction for logging purposes.

  Hi Thomas,

I believe you are on the right track. I've just completed exactly the same installation and you are going right.

However, remember the impedence of your soundcard line out and this pin 1 of the packet connector will be severly mis-matched: 50K ohm versus 3 KOhm.

You need therefore to build a circuit like suggested on the various websites for PSK31 interfacing. In my case, I use a voltage divider followed by a 1:1 audio transformer from radio-shack. In my case, this results in an impedence of about 600 to 1000 ohms, which is not ideal, but feeds reasonably well into this pin 1.

You have to select PKT as your mode as well!!

In my case, I tried the mic connector, followed by the "patch" conncector, both of which can and will work if you use mode "LSB" or "USB" -- however in this mode, you can't use your narrow filters.

  Congrats on a great rig!!!

    Tom,

If the MV is like the original Ft1000MP the data in only functions when the rig is in the packet mode via the front panel, it automatically mutes the microphone and uses the packet input visa the data jack. Try the packet mode and see if that helps. Also when I first received the FT1000MP there was an addendum attached to the manual that changed some of the pin ID's. I'm sure yours is up to date. Good luck PS - Check the manual and see if you're MV is the same with respects to the data in.

I bought a new FT-1000MP Mark V Field last weekend and am just getting around to interfacing it via my homebrewed digital interface and homebrewed computer. For DSP software I use Hamscope v1.54 because it supports PSK31, MFSK16 and RTTY.

Using the supplied five pin packet male plug I soldered transceiver audio out to soundcard in at pin #4 (data out) and that works fine. I also soldered the PTT line from the computer to pin #3 and that keys the rig up fine. The problem is with soundcard audio out to transceiver audio in. I soldered that to pin #1 (data in) and I get no or low audio in, even with the soundcard controls turned up to an acceptable level. So I presume that this is the wrong place for audio in to the
transceiver. As far as I can see I either send audio in via the mic jack on the front of the rig which is unacceptable to me because of wear and tear on the male jack. Or I use RCA female "Patch" jack on the back of the rig, which is also unacceptable to me because it's tied to the mic jack on front and I would still have to unhook the MD-100 desk mic to prevent audio pick up.

Am I missing something? Also as far as menu settings, I went to 8-6 and set it up by selecting Easy-Set with the sub VFO knob and PS31-SU with the main VFO knob. I also tried PS31-U.

      Any help would be appreciated.
