I have observed and commented upon this problem for five years. My setting
on 7-4 is 30 ms.

This is a message that i tried to send a short while ago but apparently the
mail delivery system for the reflector suffered a total system crash.
Also to comment on the message about there not being a tune button on the
field, there is a small outboard unit descibed on the va3cr web site to deal
with this shortcoming.
Hi everyone on the reflector, i'd like to chip in with my two penn'eth.
I own a ft1000mpdc which is about 8 years old, and I purchased some two
years ago now.
I have never experienced any problems regarding sticking relays in the front
end, although i have made an allowance in the menu system to protect the
switching relays going from receive to transmit (according to my
understanding of how the rig works ?????)
If you look at menu 7-4 the default is 5 ms, my understanding of this is
that when you press the key the carrier is delayed by the value in 7-4 but
the switching relays in the rig (rx to tx) are not delayed, as if using an
old style linear amp. Now its my guess that the switching relays operate in
around 6 ms, therefore it is possible that with the small default setting of
7-4 (5 milliseconds) the relays are hot switching.
I have always operated the rig with 7-4 set to 10ms to give some degree of
prot'n to the relays.
Can anyone confirm the above ?????
All the best ---- de Graeme, G4CKH.
