Hunter:
I would counter that the impression should be that the condition is
certainly POSSIBLE in all of the radios. And what is unspoken is Yaesu's
indifference to several other problems that have been widely demonstrated,
and some that are not. I, personally, have not been impressed with
Yaesu---neither with their stonewalling about clicks, their inability--in my
case--to reproduce other demonstrable problems that were not as serious, in
addition to their reaction to the dropout problem.
I have run into enough Yaesu owners over the past five years--in person at
conventions, over the air or on this List--to convince me that figures like
"1%" are wishful thinking, and most owners of so-far "good" MP's, etc., are
whistling past the graveyard, which is human nature.
I also tire of the argument that "every radio has problems." That is not in
dispute; the question to be asked is "how did the manufacturer respond?"
The technically inclined among us who have the proper equipment and know the
proper techniques can choose to do Yaesu's homework by tearing into our
radios. By the same thinking, I can also fix my own car. I choose not to do
either.
I only have two ways to "vote"--by complaining here and by not buying
another Yaesu product.

Gary,
On the other hand, if only those who are experiencing the anomaly are heard,
the impression is that all of the radios are defective, and that is not
helpful either. Surely, some of the more technically inclined among us have
been able to analyze the cause of the problem. If not, there are other rigs
out there.
