This problem is well known to many MP owners, including me. It is also one
of those problems that Yaesu pretends not to know about.
It is of course possible that something in your system outside the MP is the
culprit, e.g. a dirty contact on an antenna relay. It should be possible to
eliminate those possibilities. The most likely culprit is a DIP relay in the
front end of the MP.
I sent my MP back to Yaesu in mid-1999, still on warranty, after the problem
surfaced during the 3B9R DXpedition. Despite detailed instructions to the
tech, both in writing and by phone, he claimed he could not reproduce the
problem. Nonetheless, he did replace a handful of components, including a
relay. The components were returned to me--with no reference designators, so
it was impossible to determine what had been replaced. The problem
reappeared 3 or 4 years later, and still occurs intermittently.

May have missed this topic on the reflector.
Over the last few days, my audio seems to be going "south" intermittently.
Some times, will be just fine. Then during a QSO it will just die out to
near nothing. Have the AGC set to auto. And, have the menu 1-7 set to
"off". No near signals to over power.
Using phones and no external speaker. Also, notice that when I jostle the
phone jack just a little it does seems to come back, but just
instantaneously then fades again. Hitting the key with a "dit" brings it
back. My FT-847 did the same thing and hitting the key brought that one
back, too. Wondering if others have the same problem or I need to be looking
at that board when I do the "click" mod and filter additions.
You can respond to me personally or share with the list.
