I installed the INRAD roofing filter mod (s/n 3, which George explained was
one of the first 10 runs of the filter) in my Mark V about 2 weeks ago.
There was a minor typo in the installation instructions (labeling of the
circuit board's coax input/output jacks) which George quickly addressed in
a phone call.

I have not had the opportunity to give the mod a workout yet, but my
initial subjective listening on 20M SSB with 10 to 20+ dB over 9 European
signals crowding the band indicates improved close-in strong signal
capabilities. Combined with stacked 1.8 INRAD filters and DSP, I was able
to substantially reduce strong QRM 1 Kc away and copy a weaker S3 signal
without too much difficulty, something that had been more of an issue
before. Sensitivity remains quite good. My initial impression was that it
degraded the receive audio quality, but I've either gotten used to it or
was just having a bad day when I first heard it, as I'm very satisfied with
the audio quality on receive. I have not checked the mods performance on cw
yet. The noise blanker remains effective on QRN, and although I can't tell
if there's a positive difference, there's definitely not a negative one.

Overall, I'm very happy with the mod and will be interested in reading the
impressions of other users, particularly from those who can generate test
data.

Lou, KB0CJ
