Joe, thank you for the time to respond and you're input will be very
helpful.

First let me clarify some things which I think may help you understand my >

Joe I do not think that there is any software either freeware, shareware or
commercial that allows for sideband selection when operating MT63, if you do
I would greatly appreciate knowing about it.

My FT1000MP is one of the vintage machines and is earlier than lot #5 that
Yaesu references in the "Mars Tech Bulletin", although there fix seems to
work for PKT USB the passband of both receive and transmit is centered
around 2125hz which at the time of manufacturing was the audio of choice.
Can not get it move much lower, MT63 by design uses 1000Hz

All of the digital software from the author and especially the one I use
has
the ability to use either LSB or USB , except MT63, one because of the
bandwidth used and the mode is sideband dependent, which is MT63, the
relative new error correction, low power, low in the noise communication
software. I have had
QSO from all over the world where I could not hear the signal with my ear or
see it on the water fall display, but still copied 100%. It (MT63)
exceeds my
expectations for speed, beats them all, reliability, beats them all except
for the possibility of MFSK in certain conditions, is easy to tune unless
you can't see it or hear it HI.

My desire was to use the standard packet accessory jack as my primary input
for all software soundcard driven programs, however, MT63 uses 1000hz audio
as its center in the passband. Problem #1, it is run in USB by the
ham community including the low bands 80-40-30. a problem for my vintage
rig, why?

First I needed to setup the PKT for the lower tones through the menu's which
I think is > centered around 1125, no problem, then I needed to figure out
if I could get
the rig to USB. The MARS tech bulletin allows for USB user mode with a
passband centered around 2125hz and since my vintage rig. as Yaesu states
(Before lot 5) I cannot set the transmit frequency low enough to avoid
clipping of the low tones need by MT63 to operate.

This leaves me two choices, they are

#1) Utilize the "Patch" audio input and run the rig in USB. I do it now,
but > here are the drawbacks,
     a. Need to disconnect the microphone leaving a un-terminated open jack
b.. When I use the internal audio monitor function I do hear some hum,
more than through the low level PKT accessory jack.
        1. This maybe because one input is a low level audio source
function or some other quirk, I need to follow up on that one
c.. Requires two different audio cables from my home made Isolation
unit, one to the patch input and the other to the PKT input.

(That's before I learned of the potential of using the DVS jack)

#2) Utilize the DSV input for all digital modes, seems like a better
approach than two different inputs, mutes the microphone input similar to
the packet input while in that mode deletes duplicate cables and reduces
the
chance of introduction of RFI or hum pickup.

#1 was the easiest to get up and running, #2 should be my goal and choice.

Now to the hum on the patch, this is something that has been reported by
several hams on different reflectors but maybe it is an anomaly when using
the internal monitor function and may not be transmitted, I pretty much
confirmed
that my signal seems to be hum free at least that's the report from other
hams listening to my signal.

I do utilize isolation transformers on all audio inputs and outputs plus
voltage block caps just to protect and isolate the rig. I love this
FT1000MP,
never had one problem except the 15-meter parasitic problem which
was easy to fix and have used it here since 1996, it is a 1994 manufactured
series. Have install the INRAD IF gain mod, filters, key click mod and its
up to date except for the change required to get it on USB utilizing the
Packet accessory jack.

I cannot think of any other method than either #1 or #2 above to achieve
the
need operating condx for MT63 but I am by far not the expert on this one.
Again thank you for you're
input, it got the old brain working and some times it needs a jump start.
Have a great weekend.
