Great thought Rick
Connected directly to an MFJ Dummy load, the quadra on 3.964 tunes fiine
and I can scream, whistle, talk, do hand stands, and the SWR never
moves. The amp takes it fine. Hook it back up to the G5RV and before I
get a 1/2 a sentence spoken it's back to protection mode >3-1 SWR.
Sometimes I cannot say one word. Other times it takes two sentences
before it drops out to protection mode.
So it woul appear to be either the antennaor the lead. The lead is new
coax and is NOT shorted, pinched or looped. Goes across the shack, out a
small hole in the window frame, off the roof to the ground, over the
ground to the twin lead connection.

Hi All:
Here is a thought. What kind of coax are you using. For that power level it
should be RG-8 size, not RG-8x or RG-58. The latter 2 cables are not rated
to carry that kind of power with a non perfect SWR or even with a perfect
SWR.
