Sergei,
You might try turning the gain back up, because you can always turn on the
IPO or attenuation later. There is no magic here- if you can hear guys with
the Omni that you can't on the MP, the Omni is more sensitive and I'd think
you'd need to add gain somewhere, not take it away.

I've got a Field and haven't noticed it being significantly less sensitive
on the low bands than my Pro or TS-2000. I have noticed that it is much less
prone to interference of all sorts than either of those.

I might consider the Orion, if I had the money and didn't mind it looking
like a kit, but for $3500.00, I can buy a Field, a used 2.5kW amp and a
tower or another antenna. The Orion isn't THAT much better to me, although
from the ARRL review, it looks like a excellent performer. My priorities are
elsewhere, I guess.

73,
Scott, W9AL

last 10 years. Was owner of FT-990 and using the FT-1oooMp for the last six
years. For this period of six years I've got not bad results: 8BDXCC, 5BWAZ,
5BWAS, DXCC Chal 1500 (wkd 2190 as for today). But - I've got a real issue
with low bands - 160/80m. It's very simple - I just can't hear well. The
menu 9-1 is always on very low gain (4-6) while I'm on top bands. But this
does not help! A few months ago I purchased second hand OMNI VI+ and - I CAN
HEAR US guys on 160meters. During the last weekend CQWW160m I was comparing
all the time the RXs on both MP and OMNI VI+. OMNI is the winner. Will be
looking for the ORION in the future..
